Autumn Update
I’ve had a mad year with Singularity and Cypher and there’s a fair bit still to come before the year is out. The intention is you won’t be hearing very much from me in Q1 of 2022. (I need a break!) But I thought it was time I outlined some of what I’ve got lined up.
Fusion
Singularity was part one of the Origins series. Fusion is part two. Whereas Singularity was about endings, Fusion moves one step closer to Genesis (Part four). Fusion shares some traits with Singularity - it’s chaotic, symmetrical and intricate, and takes inspiration from particle and chemical combustion and subterranean photography.
Technically, Fusion shares more similarities with Singularity than Cypher: It’s HTML and JavaScript stored on-chain but rendered to an image off-chain by a browser or server.
Fusion was originally pencilled for an ArtBlocks release, but we’ve developed tech that allows me to drop it as a standalone collection — ArtBlocks is a wonderful platform, but I’ve opted for my own tech as it grants me more control. I can use my own front-end for the drop, (below) and utilise Anders’ new improved auction smart-contract which we first developed for Cypher, which worked very well, automating the entire process, it also opens all sorts of avenues for future projects and side projects with experimental mechanisms and interesting twists.
The Fusion pricing model will be a Dutch auction, with more details on starting price and increment to follow after the ‘official’ announcement. There will be 1024 tokens available, but as with Cypher some will be reserved for the team. We’re doing some final tests, but it’s all working well so the release is currently pencilled for 15th October. Keep an eye on Twitter for the announcement, and pricing details.
Totality
Totality is designed as a thankyou to Singularity holders. The enthusiasm and support I received over the course of the Cypher development was truly motivating. I wanted to show appreciation for this, as the project was quite involved and it took a lot to get it over the line.
There’s been such a great response to Totality. I've spent a lot of time talking to you on socials to try and work out the best way to proceed, but I couldn’t find a reasonable consensus for either seeding or distribution mechanism.
In the end I’ve settled on the simplest way — On January 1st 2022 I’ll airdrop the tokens. And you’ll be able to redeem the source directly from the blockchain via the smart-contract, the same as with Fusion.
It will be seeded the same way as any other collection with a mixture of stuff, but we wont be using solely the account address or original singularity hash as was suggested in the link above.
I like the idea of these side projects, and will certainly include more of them as the Apex and Origins series progress. More to come on Totality in December, again keep an eye on Twitter for announcements.
Cypher
The Apex Series won’t see another collection dropped this year though Cypher will develop further — I will remain cryptic here for the time being and am well aware this is really irritating to some.
It’s worth noting that the Generation property has utility beyond simply marking the price point at which a given Cypher was minted in the meta-data.
Distance Fields
I’m often talking about “the team” now, and ‘we’ rather than ‘I’.
At the moment any Hideki Tsukamoto project represents the work of 4 or 5 people, directed by me — I write all the art code, but I’m terrible at services and back-end stuff, and HTML and CSS makes me feel physically sick, so we needed someone to do that — There’s quite a bit of audio appearing on incoming projects and there’s a motion graphics element too, plus all the blockchain specific smart-contract and data stuff.
So as a collective we now operate as Distance Fields.
We’re currently wandering the metaverse without any real home. For community purposes I rely on Anomalous Materials and Art Blocks Discord servers, but I can’t keep doing that forever, as there are projects in the works, (like Fusion) that belong to neither platform.
At some point I’ll need my own Distance Fields (or Tsukamoto) server, but communities are a commitment that don’t just run themselves so I’ve been putting it off. If setting up Discord or running communities is your thing, and you’d like to get involved, then please drop me a line. Apologies to throw another term into the mix with Distance Fields — along side the various Origins, Apex, Singularity, Totality, Fusion, Cypher, Anomalous terms already being bandied about.
Thanks for the support as ever.
